Are you looking for an Alumni Mentor?

Are you looking for an Alumni Mentor?

Following its success in 2021, we are delighted to announce that the School Games National Finals’ Alumni Mentor Programme is back for the second year running, and we are looking for competing athletes to get involved.

We are offering athletes competing at this year’s event a one-on-one virtual mentoring session with a School Games National Finals alumni.

Through this initiative, the athletes have the opportunity to discuss with their alumni mentor topics of their choosing, such as wider passions outside of sport or discussing societal issues that the athletes care about. In addition, the athletes will have the opportunity to discuss with their mentors the positive benefits of both competitive sport and life outside of sport.

Alongside the one-on-one virtual mentoring session, we will also be interviewing high profile athletes and Youth Sport Trust spokespeople to give those competing a well-rounded view of what opportunities are available to them.

The School Games National Finals differs to any other sporting event taking place across the country due to the added element of the Education Programme, sessions that run across the event providing athletes with the tools and resources they need to help them succeed both within and outside of competitive sport.

Last year’s alumni mentors included:

  • Chloe Birch, Tokyo 2020 Team GB Badminton player
  • Lucy Renshall, Team GB British Judo athlete selected for this year’s Commonwealth Games
  • Gabby Marshall, England Netball athlete.

Netball athlete Izzi, who competed at last year’s event, had Gabby Marshall as her mentor. She commented: “I learnt so much from Gabby. I was able to ask her questions about competing professionally, playing alongside education and what to expect with several major tournaments coming up. I look forward to using the advice that Gabby has given me, which will hopefully lead me to compete alongside her one day.”

If you are an athlete competing at this year’s School Games National Finals and would like to get involved in this year’s Alumni Mentor Programme, we want to hear from you!

The School Games National Finals is delivered by Youth Sport Trust and provides opportunities for young people both on and off the field of play, thanks to a range of experiences. This includes its education programme where young athletes will experience innovative workshops from experts across the weekend to support them on their sporting journeys.
