The busiest day of the competition so far brings speed, skill and support

With all sports in full swing, there was a hive of activity across Loughborough University as the young athletes spent another full day on campus soaking up the atmosphere of the multi-sport competition.

The day was full of sprinting, with the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Centre seeing some of the fastest young athletes flew around the track, competing in everything from 100m Sprint to the 1500m Steeplechase Boys.

Highlights included the Boys 400m Hurdles in which Jake Minshull from Coventry took home Gold, and in the Universal Relay A the Paris All Stars took home Gold, Rio Silver and Athens Bronze.

All results from the track events can be viewed here.

Out on the roads, Cycling graced the campus for the first time, following an off-site challenge at the Manchester Velodrome on Friday. The young cyclists sped around the track and saw Scotland’s Arabella Blackburn take the lead in the Girls’ Street Sprint and Matthew Brennan from the Northeast land first place in the Boys’ Street Sprint.

Elsewhere, the Triathlon officially came to an end today following an exciting couple of days of medals. The Overall category resulted in Struan Bennett from Scotland and Millie Breese from the Northeast taking Gold in the Boys and Girls respectively.

In addition to the fantastic talent we have seen from all the young athletes competing across the weekend, the Youth Sport Trust continued their series of Sporting Life Lessons workshops for the athletes to learn, from their athlete mentors, about how to use their platform to create an impact, and how to balance sport alongside various other aspects of young people’s lives.

Tonight’s session, Life Alongside Sport, was hosted by CEO Ali Oliver and can be viewed on YouTube here
