Message from the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England about the 2020 School Games National Finals

First, we hope you, your loved ones and your teams are well and coping with these difficult times.

The Youth Sport Trust and Sport England have been working closely together to make sense of the impact of Coronavirus and school closures on the School Games.  For example the work of School Games Organisers has been refocused to support schools and parents to help keep youngsters active while they are being home schooled.

We have also been reviewing the feasibility of proceeding with the 2020 School Games National Finals due to take place at Loughborough University between 3rd – 6th September.  We have taken the decision, supported by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, that the finals can’t take place this year.  Partners could not guarantee either a safe environment for the athletes and support staff, nor could fair selection events be guaranteed. In addition, at this stage it is not clear whether current restrictions will still be in place at the point when the Games were due to take place.

The Youth Sport Trust will now work with key partners including Loughborough University towards the rearrangement of the Games to take place in 2021.
