Hockey returns to the School Games National Finals this time with a six team schedule, providing plenty of action over four days of competition.

Hockey is an exciting and fast-paced team sport. The aim of the game is to move the hockey ball around the pitch with the hockey stick and score in the opponent’s goal. Goals are only counted if they are scored from within the D, the semi-circle in front of the goal)

Squads consist of 18 players, with 11 players on the pitch at one time and featuring rolling substitutions. Matches consist of four periods of 15 minutes, with the team scoring the most goals winning.

Hockey is a great way to develop social, team and communication skills. In England alone, it is estimated that around 140,000 individuals play at club level with a further 15,000 at university or college. It is one of the most popular sports in the country for participation, as well as a rapidly growing spectator sport.
